About
Dunwoody Village
Dunwoody Village is
an accedited, continuing-care retirement community located in historic
Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Its lush, wooded, eighty-three acre
campus has the convenience of a suburban Philadelphia location,
but the peaceful seclusion of a private estate.
Couples and single persons
age 65 and older have the opportunity to join the Dunwoody community
and enjoy their retirement years with an outstanding quality
of life.
The Founding of Dunwoody
Village
William Hood Dunwoody,
a native Philadelphian, served in an apprenticeship while among
Quaker families and relatives who taught him to be patient, silent,
thorough, and to keep a close eye on the books.
It was the founder's
love of his fellow man and their welfare that was the motivating
force behind his trust under will to care for convalescent men.
In the 1960s, the Board
of Trustees researched the changing needs of society and concluded
that it would be in keeping with the intent of Mr. Dunwoody's will
to build a continuing-care retirement community that would make
better use of the eighty-three acres of farmland.
The Board of Trustees
opened the Village in 1974.
